NEW YORK CITY – This certainly goes down as one of the stupidest crime excuses of all time. Benjamin Carr, 23, was arrested Sunday for what authorities says was an unprovoked shooting of his friend, Andy Williams, 24, who was shot point-blank range in the head. Williams was pronounced dead on the scene.
Trying to find a motive for the homicide police said Mr. Carr claimed he shot his friend as a joke. That he was ‘just kidding.’
“I’ve seen a lot of murder excuses, but shooting somebody in the head with a .357 is not some kind of practical joke, he wasn’t just kidding, I don’t know, speechless,” a police interrogator said.
Police found no alcohol or drugs in Williams’ system and could not find a history of mental illness and intense interrogation proved fruitless. “Williams continues to state emphatically that the murder was a ‘just a joke,’ that he was ‘just kidding,'” a department spokesman said.
If convicted, Williams faces up to life in prison.
