President Goodluck Jonathan recently approved the granting of
national honours to 305 Nigerians but the name of late Dr. Stella Ameyo
Adadevoh was not on the list
A list of 305 recipients to be bestowed with national honours has been approved by President Goodluck Jonathan.
However, many Nigerians have questioned why the name of late Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh, who literally saved Nigerians from a devastating Ebola outbreak, is not on the list.
The president’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe addressed the questions via Twitter (@doyinokupe) saying:
“I
hv rcvd enquiries as 2 why dr adadevoh was not included in d honors
list. By law establishing it nat.honors cannot be given post humously”
Dr. Adadevoh is credited with stopping infected Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer from walking out of the First Consultant Medical Center
and causing a full scale epidemic. Many Nigerians have hailed her as a
national heroine hence the calls for the Nigerian government to honour
her.
Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh died of Ebola on August 19, 2014. May her soul rest in peace.
